I just realised that the reading group is due to meet this Friday (6pm in the Glengower). We’ve had a bit of an up and down session this year so far with the greatest attendance ever at a meeting on one occasion and lots of good discussion… But we’ve at other times we’ve struggles for numbers and missed the opportunity to get the most from the readings. This group is now 7 years old, I think, and we’ve made major strides forward in the last couple of years – not least through establishing and using the blog site. If we’re going to continue, though, I think we need to conjure up a few more ‘regulars’ and a bit more energy. So on Friday, I suggest we meet to discuss ideas for the future and maybe decide some topics and dates for the summer and/or the autumn. Meantime, maybe this chapter that I’ve written with a NY academic Mark Purcell will inspire us about reading groups as a tactic in a radical projects of life long-learning to fulfill our human potential beyond a capitalist political economy.
